My novel-in-progress centers on a young girl growing up in 1970s bohemian Brooklyn, her parents’ unraveling marriage, and her peripatetic journey through the classical dance world. The book is interwoven with scenes from a contemporary dance professor's life, who — the reader will discover — is haunted by the events of her past. The two storylines converge at the end in a way that illuminates the wondrous and perilous journey of so many girls who enter this domain.

In some ways, this is a deeply personal book. I too trained as a ballet dancer during the 1970s and 1980s. I studied at Harkness Ballet and was on scholarship at Eliot Feld's New Ballet School.
